Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk, has said when he was at Celtic he urged the clubs scouts to sign Andy Robertson.

The Hoops signed the Dutch centre-back in 2013, Van Dijk spent two year with them, before moving down to England with Southampton.

Van Dijk is currently playing alongside Robertson at Liverpool – them both having helped the Anfield outfit to numerous honours.

Liverpool signed Robertson for £10m from a relegated Hull in 2017 – the Scotland captain is perhaps the biggest bargain in the Premier League.

Van Dijk, said: “Robbo is a fantastic player, a pleasure to play with, passionate,” said Van Dijk. “He is one of the leaders in my opinion.

“He is the captain of Scotland and I played against him playing at Celtic when he was at Dundee United.

“Funny enough I was saying to our scouts that we should get him at Celtic.

“But he went on to Hull, but just in general playing with him has been incredible.

“I’m hard to him but he’s hard to me and we have that relationship where we want to get the maximum out of each other.

“Outside the pitch he’s one of the funniest guys in the team and always up for a laugh.”
