Chances created. Chances missed. Chances conceded. The common them with Celtic in Europe this season as a frustrating campaign comes to an end.

But, the gaffer isn’t letting it affect him as he believes the squad is getting better with every game in the Champions League.

The Hoops failed to win a single game in their return to Europe’s top competition, but he excepts the players to learn from mistakes.

Postecoglou said: “At 2-0 we got our penalty, 2-1 maybe doesn’t change the outcome but maybe gives more belief under pressure. That’s the story of our campaign though maybe.

“We lost 5-1 against a fantastic team but the players never stopped trying to play. Thibaut Courtois was outstanding. We lost to a very good football team but I’m still proud of the player’s effort.

“I’ve said before, the key for us is to be here every year. I’ve no doubt our players have grown, O’Riley, Hatate, I’ve no doubt they’ll be better footballers quite a few of our guys – but only if we qualify again.

“If we perform like that, we’ll be hard to stop in the league. With that intent, we’ll be hard to stop.

“I’m disappointed for the fans, disappointed for the players. Certainly not disheartened, though.”

He continued: “We will need to understand the areas that we have fallen short in, and some of it’s just experience.

“This is all new – our ambition should be to be at Champions League level every year and if we do that and show the same sort of intent then we’ll start to make more of an impact.

“You can only develop that by experiencing it. It’s the first time we’ve been in the Champions League in five years.

“If we keep playing like this and continue to improve and continually get to Champions League level, then I’ve no doubt we’ll make an impact.

“Bridging that gap isn’t immense but it’s the most difficult bit to get right because you’re talking about scoring goals at this level – it’s not the easiest thing to do.”
