‘If it’s rugby let them play on’ Sutton takes swipe at Government as Rugby is let off

Chris Sutton has hit out at the SNP Scottish Government, insisting that Nicola Sturgeon doesn’t treat rugby the same as she treats football breaches.

The former Celtic striker and now pundit, was reacting to the news that Edinburgh Rugby are allowed to travel to France despite one of their players breaking the Covid rules, and then testing positive for the virus.

Sutton points out the clear hypocrisy of the governments stance on the matter, as he hits out on Twitter.

He said on Twitter: “So the Scottish government and Jason Leitch quick to call off football matches when football players break the rules but if it’s the rugby boys breaking the rules let them play on…”

Jason Leitch, said: “The young man in question is one of four academy players who attended a house party last Friday and in doing so they breached the general restrictions on social gatherings and also the protocols that were agreed between Scottish Rugby and the Scottish Government.

“This is clearly unacceptable and I’m personally disappointed that after all the hard work that’s gone into the return of elite sport with the rugby authorities that this has happened.

“All four players are now self-isolating and their contacts, including those at the gathering, are being traced.”
