Johnny Russell has admitted the reason he decided he was set on being a footballer was because of Henrik Larsson’s chip against Rangers, in the 6-2 game.
The Scottish striker grew up in Glasgow as a Celtic fan, and had an idea he wanted to play football but was set when he watched his Swede idol in action was when he decided to give it a go.
On the Sporting Kansas Podcast, Russell said: “The reason I decided that this is what I want to do was seeing him.
“I always had an idea this is what I wanted to do but seeing him made me decide this is it.
“He is still to this day, my idol and my favourite player.
“It is my favourite goal of all time.
“He takes it from the half-way line, runs through, nutmegs one of their players and then the goalkeeper comes out to confront him and he chips him.
“That is my favourite goal that I have ever seen still to this day.
“I don’t think it will ever be beaten for me – especially the game that it was in against Rangers.”
He added: “A couple of years back I was going to a a charity game at Celtic Park and I never had a chance to meet him.
“I haven’t had the chance yet but hopefully in the next couple of years I can rectify that.”
