Lawrence Shankland in with Europe’s top scorers

Lawrence Shankland’s double this afternoon earned Dundee United a 2-1 win over Arbroath this afternoon in the Scottish Championship to keep them top of the table – and his late goals have propelled the striker to near the top of the European goalscoring charts.

The strikes, coming in the 88th and 92nd minute, saw the 24-year-old take his record for the season to an impressive 12 goals.

And by the looks of it, in doing so he can lay claim to being one of the most in-form strikers in Europe so far this season, ahead of the likes of Aberdeen’s Sam Cosgrove, Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos and Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski who each have 11 goals.

Shankland is, however, way behind Europe’s most deadly striker in Salzburg’s young Norwegian sensation Erling Haaland, who has 17 goals to his name this season after his hat-trick in the Champions League against Genk in midweek.
