Leigh Griffiths revealed what happened in the changing room after the match against Cluj.
Lennon knew exactly how the players must’ve felt, because he had been there himself 17 years ago.
Griffiths isn’t making any bold claims, but insists the Europa League can provide more of those Glory nights if Celtic can get there.
Griffiths said: “The gaffer touched on the fact that when he was a player, his Celtic team were put out the Champions League and that season they made the final.
“He mentioned that straight after the game on Tuesday. So hopefully there is that silver lining to the cloud for us, too.
“If we do get through, and we can go on a decent run, then who knows where it can take us.
That Celtic team had Henrik Larsson, Chris Sutton and John Hartson. There aren’t players like that kicking about any more.
“So it’s time for us to make a name for ourselves, whether it be me, Odsonne Edouard, Scott Brown or James Forrest.
“Other teams have made the last 16 of the Champions League, so we need to make sure we are remembered for doing something.
“Yes, there are big teams in there. You can look at last season — the group had the makings of a Champions League section with Salzburg, Red Bull Leipzig and Rosenborg.
“It was a hard group which we managed to get through and then it was Valencia, one of the huge names in Spanish football. I think the fans enjoyed that game.
“But first and foremost we need to make sure that we beat AIK and get there again.”
