George Tucudean, Cluj attacker, could have easily of played for the Celts, if it wasn’t for a change of policy after Tommy Burns death.
Although Cluj were already heading through on away goals, Tucudean managed to score the winner to seal Celtic’s fate.
“Tommy Burns wanted me there,” Tucudean said to The Athletic
“He was in charge of the Celtic academy back then. A Romanian agent brought me and a colleague over for a trial — we weren’t even 16-years-old at that point.
“We were supposed to live with a family who were selected by the club to take care of foreign youth players. Sadly, Burns passed away and after that the club’s policy regarding youth transfers changed.
“It’s a club that I like a lot for their fans and for their history.
“The time I spent in Glasgow really made me connect with this club, I even follow them now, 14 or 15 years after I was there.”
